Moira dela Torre inflicts us with the blues once again—on Valentine’s Day—no less, with her music video for the song ‘Paubaya.’ Starring former on-screen and off-screen couple Joshua Garcia and Julia Baretto, the music video tells a story of fictionalized versions of Joshua and Julia as they get ready for their wedding. Peppered in the video are old videos of the couple themselves, giving it an intensely personal feel which tugged on the heartstrings of viewers everywhere.
The melancholic moment that caught people’s attention most is arguably a dialogue which Joshua and Julia themselves are credited as writers of—a heart-wrenching moment between the couple where they ask each other for, and at the same time, grant each other forgiveness. Netizens were quick to speculate that this exchange was more real than reel, causing a massive stir on the internet, with #PaubayaMusicVideo, Joshua, and Julia becoming trending topics on Twitter.
It is no surprise then that the cinematic video has quickly gone viral—amassing more than 11 million views and counting since its premiere! We extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to Moira (@moirarachelle) and Jason Marvin (@jasonmarvinph) for the wonderful song and video. What a way to celebrate the love month!
Moira’s voice may be calm and soothing, but the songstress doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. In a recent Instagram post, Moira shares that the Paubaya music video signified her “closing the Patawad era”. What’s next for our iconic Queen of Emotional Songs?
