MANILA - Maricar Reyes-Poon's choco-liquor cake made the cut to be part of this year 'Best Desserts' of Inquirer Lifestyle in line with their 5th year celebration last June 3 at SMX Convention Center, SM Aura Premier in Taguig.
Not like any other bazaars she had joined, this event is one of the most memorable and surprisingly unexpected in all ways. To her surprise, the cake that was supposed to be a gift to a friend turned out to be her ticket to the event. One of the writers of the book that was launched in the event got to taste the chocolate cake of Maricar making them decide that it should be part of the event and should be included in the book.
On that day, she brought with her wine-infused chocolate cakes and Choco chunks which is a new addition to her growing business. It was a festival of sweets and pastries. She was then called as one of the chosen Best Desserts for 2019 alongside well-known chefs in the Philippines.
Over 2,500 dessert lovers attended this year’s event. “It was a fantastic turnout. We’re so happy that we’re able to discover more dessert makers and we’re proud,” said Inquirer CEO and president Sandy Prieto-Romualdez. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Gota De Leche Foundation which has been the beneficiary of “Best Desserts” for the past several years.
“Best Desserts” has become a family affair for many of the bakers. It’s a multigenerational experience, with proud and supportive grandparents, parents and kids in the event.
This achievement is a humbling experience for Maricar's budding business in the food industry. Also, it serves as a challenge for her to expand and to soar greater heights for this new passion.
