AIN’T A BLUFF: DRAG DEN PH IS HAPPENING

July 01, 2021

MANILA ⸺ “Dragdagulan na!” The Philippines’ first ever drag reality series “Drag Den Philippines” will finally raid the Filipino entertainment scene featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race international icon Manila Luzon as host.

Sensational, dazzling, and everything fierce—these are the ingredients for the perfect drag queen, and the Philippine “drag cartel” is leveling up their A-game for all the fabulosity that awaits! Cornerstone Entertainment broke the ground with an announcement July 1 that shook drag divas and drag fans alike to their core: a Filipino “drag race” is finally happening! And with the legendary Manila Luzon, known for her gag-worthy looks, as the host, expect nothing less than a spectacular mayhem.

With creative producers and directors Antoinette Jadaone and Rod Singh, Drag Den Philippines is the first of its kind in the Philippine entertainment scene. Pushing a brave finger into the rather niched art of drag, according to Rod Singh, Drag Den PH will feed on the Filipino version of camp, from our extravagantly cheap “Ms. Gay Barangayan” pageants to the vibrant swardspeaking and unflinching street humor of the local gay community.

What sets Drag Den PH apart from other drag reality shows is its being Filipino-centered in spotlighting the arts. It will showcase the finest couture pieces from Filipino designers, and blast OPM hits to relate to and captivate the Filipino audience. With Pinoy creativity and artistry, witty humor, obsession for pageants, and our color-soaring gay pop culture, a drag reality show in our homeland is long overdue.

As Manila Luzon expressed in her Welcome Address, "The drag scene in the Philippines needs the attention—the attention it deserves!

“The Philippines has one of the best drag scenes in the whole world and the whole Philippines is completely unaware of it.”

Drag Den PH aims to introduce the Filipino drag scene to a wider range of audiences to take not only the Philippines but the whole world by storm, and leave a legacy that would help to positively reshape the existing notions towards drag and the LGBTQ+ community.
